ImageOct. 17 (Bloomberg) — Iran freed a Canadian Newsweek journalist detained in Tehran since June after receiving 3 billion rials ($303,541) in bail money, Agence France-Presse reported, citing Iranian news service ILNA.

Iranian-born Maziar Bahari, who holds citizenship in both countries, was arrested during post-election protests and charged with sending false election reports, disrupting public order by participating in illegal gatherings, and holding classified documents, AFP said.

Last month, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Canada’s Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon jointly called on Iran to provide access to Americans and Canadians detained by Iranian authorities, including Bahari, and explain the charges against them.
