ImageTehran, Feb. 02 – Iran has developed a new class of surface-to-air missile to defeat the US Apache helicopters, an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) official told state-run media on Tuesday.

“Enemies should not imagine that if their Apache choppers have shown a mighty and desirable performance in Iraq and Afghanistan, they can show the same might and power in a possible aggression against Iran. We will certainly put an end to the power of their Apaches through our measures", Colonel Nasser Arab-Beigi, the head of the IRGC's Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organisation told the state-run Fars news agency.

Although Arab-Beigi failed to specify the type of weapon which would bring down the Apache, Iranian authorities have put a great deal of finance and technical support into developing their missile capabilities.

The US Apache helicopter has long been hailed as an impressive fighting helicopter for armed conflicts and has been extensively used in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
