Tehran, Jun. 12 – Units of the State Security Force (SSF) and anti-riot guards are being deployed in the capital’s central areas, including Vali Asr, Enqelab, Azadi, Haft-e Tir and Ferdowsi squares.
Twenty large police vans with riot police in full gear have been deployed in Enqelab Square and in the immediate vicinity. Each van was filled with more than a dozen police officers.
Earlier on Saturday, large numbers of police forces were deployed outside the entrance to Tehran’s prestigious Polytechnic (Amir Kabir) University.
SSF units have been stationed in and around the state broadcasting corporation complex since late on Friday.
Saturday marks one year since anti-government protests took the nation by storm.
