The Iranian Parliament’s Health Commission Deputy Chair and the Health Minister’s representative in Gilan Province, Mohammad Hossein Ghorbani, wrote in a confidential report to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s office that 408 people,

including six doctors, have died from the coronavirus in Gilan alone, while another 1,860 are hospitalized, mostly in critical condition.

He said that the announced Coronavirus figures are based on a certain protocol controlled by ‘Coronavirus Combat and Prevention Headquarters’.

In another report, Ghorbani told Health Minister Saeed Namaki that the situation in Gilan was critical and would spiral out of control if the government didn’t provide major aid. He stressed that medical staff is exhausted and at breaking point, having been unable to return home in many days and working without the necessary facilities.

Even the state-run Hamshahri newspaper quoted Ghorbani as saying that the situation was “not good” and the measures being taken by the province and the Health Ministry are “inadequate to the point of being terrifying”.

While the paper Javan, which is affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said that locals in Gilan are reporting that there is no crisis management and the province is in a chaotic state.

Of course, it should be noted that while hospitals are not receiving the needed help, the security forces are bolstering to crackdown on any anti-regime protests that spring up because of the crisis. Commander of the IRGC and Basij forces in the Coronavirus Headquarters in Gilan, Mohammad Abdullah Pour, is overseeing measures to counterprotests, including the true number of victims.

Maryam Rajavi, the President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), sent her condolences to the grieving families in Gilan and urged the brave young people of Iran to assist and care for those infected with the coronavirus. She urged them to help save the lives of their fellow citizens, while also making sure that they are protected

She said that the mullahs’ regime, whose actions led to the spread of the outbreak, is too incompetent to help the people of Gilan or Iran as a whole during this time.

There have now been 2,300 coronavirus deaths across 115 cities in 30 of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)

On Saturday, Alireza Rahimi, a member of the Iranian Parliament, asked: “Why was the Coronavirus outbreak in Qom overshadowed by the Majlis elections? Why was Qom not quarantined to prevent the spread of Coronavirus across the country?”
