Tehran, May 19 – When Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took office as President, he promised to take the oil revenues to the people’s dinner tables.

The gap between rich and poor has since increased dramatically.

Here are two adverts published in Tehran’s mainstream dailies, which best reflect the destitution which has befallen the Iranian people under the mullahs’ rule:

A young couple with one child cannot afford rent.

They are honest, but poor.

They want to act as security guards for a project or a building. They don’t want salaries or insurance. They will also cook. But they need just a room in the building which they will be looking after.
