Tehran, Iran, Mar. 16 – A top aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened the United Nations Security Council, saying that any resolution adopted against Iran over its nuclear activities would have reprisals.

“Meddling by the UN Security Council in Iran’s nuclear file is illegal and unlawful. Any resolution adopted [on Tehran’s nuclear program”> by the UNSC is a blatant injustice against the Iranian nation and its inalienable rights. As such, it would not remain without reprisal from the Iranian government and nation”, Ali-Akbar Velayati said. His remarks were carried by the official news agency IRNA on Friday.

Velayati, a former Iranian Foreign Minister, is currently international affairs adviser to Supreme Leader Khamenei.

On December 23, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1737, slapping sanctions on Tehran. It ordered Iran to suspend all uranium enrichment-related activities.
