ImageTehran, Iran, Oct. 09 – Radical Shiite cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami on Friday claimed talks between the Iranian regime and the P5+1 world powers over Iran's nuclear programme were a victory for the Islamic Republic.

"Prior to the talks, they [western nations] used to speak of suspension and sanctions against Iran but after the talks, there has not been any word of suspension", Khatami said at a Friday prayers sermon in Tehran.

"The world arrogance [United States] should know that Islamic Iran is powerful and strong. Our doctrine is deterrence and not aggression. They [western nations] should not erroneously think of harming the (Islamic Republic) system because they know pretty well that if they wish inflicting the least damage on the system, they will be slapped in the face so heavily that will never be able to rise up again", the state-run news agency Fars quoted Khatami as saying.

In reference to Israeli confrontations over the Al-aqsa mosque, Khatami warned: "With the crime, the third Intifada will be shaped. The Intifada will put an end to the dirty existence of the forged Zionist regime".
