ImageTehran, Iran, Nov. 23 – A senior commander of Iran's police force has announced the successful design and manufacture by Iran of a mortar launcher simulator.

"Finally, the mortar launcher simulator was designed and manufactured after continuous efforts and studies. … The (virtual) launcher is able to shoot a 900 gram mortar shell to a 1 km distance and has every feature of a real mortar launcher", the state-run news agency Fars reported Deputy Police Chief for Training, General Mohammad Taqi Assar, as saying.

The announcement comes following last year's explosion of a mortar shell during a police drill in the central province of Yazd which left three Iranian officers killed.
