Tehran, Iran, Oct. 21 – One of Iran’s former provincial governors and a city governor were involved in the theft of 470 billion Rials (approx. 47 million dollars), the country’s Judiciary announced on Thursday.

State television quoted Judiciary Spokesman Jamal Karimi-Rad as saying that the former governors of the city and province of Qazvin, west of Tehran, were believed to have had a hand in misusing the state funds.

Karimi-Rad said that their cases were being sent to Tehran for prosecution, adding that the cases of several other individuals involved in the embezzlement ring would be seen to in Qazvin.

The officials were accused of illegally selling villagers’ wheat rations among several other charges.
