Tehran, Iran, Oct. 30 – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed on Sunday that Tehran would move forward with its controversial nuclear fuel cycle, and accused the United States and Europe of lying about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

“As the previous government [of ex-President Mohammad Khatami”> was coming to an end, it reached the conclusion that [Western governments’”> claims that we should take confidence-building measures were a lie. They wanted to deprive us of our legitimate right”, Ahmadinejad said.

“Today, we have reached the conclusion that they are lying and don’t want us to have the nuclear fuel cycle. So we decided that we had to recommence work at Isfahan”, Ahmadinejad said, referring to the Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF) in the central city of Isfahan. The resumption of activities at this plant led to a resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s governing board, condemning Iran’s breach of its international obligations.

The hard-line President also accused the West of lying when it said that Tehran had deceived the world for 18 years by keeping its nuclear program secret.

“Another lie they are telling is that they claim Iran has been concealing its program for 18 years, whereas according to the IAEA charter, we had to inform them of the UCF in Isfahan six months before its opening. But we have not even mounted the machines in the nuclear energy establishments”, Ahmadinejad said.

The Iranian President’s statement was dismissed by experts, who said Iran never declared anything to the IAEA on its uranium enrichment program and the sites in Natanz and Ab-Ali before the opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran revealed them in August 2002.

Ahmadinejad hinted that Iran may also resume uranium enrichment at the site in Natanz.

“When I visited Natanz, many young and zealous experts were depressed. They told me we tried hard to achieve something, and now they have sealed these machines, which are the fruit of our lives, in front of our eyes”, Ahmadinejad said.

The Iranian President said the West was angry, because “the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved nuclear technology”.

“For 27 years, the Global Oppressors have been saying that our religious regime is a barrier to progress, but today they are seeing that the Islamic Republic of Iran has the most advanced nuclear technology. This means that 27 years of propaganda by the West against the Islamic Republic of Iran have been undone”.

“They know that if Iran achieves its rights fully, then other countries will follow suit”, Ahmadinejad said.
