Tehran, Iran, Feb. 05 – Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker said on Sunday that the recent cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammad which have sparked a wave of protests across Europe were linked to the international dispute over the Islamic Republic’s refusal to end its sensitive nuclear activities.

Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel told Majlis deputies, “The West cannot tolerate Muslims’ dignity and authority so it is determined to humiliate them”.

“The Muslim world is vigilant”, Haddad-Adel said. “As they have expressed outrage and protest at the desecration of the prophet of Islam, they will not keep silent against bullying remarks under the pretext of a resolution of the UN nuclear agency”.

On Saturday, the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency adopted a European resolution reporting Tehran’s nuclear file to the Security Council.

He vowed that Tehran would not back down from its stances, nor would it be intimidated by the “bullying remarks of oppressors”.

“We suggest Europe holds dialogue among civilisations but it desecrates Islamic sanctities. Definitely, they have not well understood the new wave reverberated in the Muslim World”, the Majlis Speaker, who is a close aide of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said.
