Tehran, Iran, Jul. 15 – Iran’s Labour Minister announced that over the past year more than 300,000 Iranian workers were sacked.

“The figures show that in the past year alone some 320,000 workers were sacked on the basis of the existing laws”, Mohammad Jahromi said during a visit to East Azerbaijan Province. His remarks were reported by the state-run news agency Fars on Thursday.

Hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appointed Jahromi as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs in 2005.

Jahromi was previously the deputy chairman for executive affairs of the ultra-conservative Guardians Council and a member of the secretariat of the State Expediency Council.

Following the 1979 Islamic revolution, he was a founding member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces.

He later became the governor of Zanjan, Lorestan and Semnan provinces.
