TV report links Iran to killing of Iraqi intelligence officer

Baghdad, Aug. 01 – Unknown assailants assassinated a colonel in Iraq’s new intelligence network, the state television channel ash-Sharqia reported on Monday.

A source in the Iraqi Defence Ministry said that gunmen in two cars opened fire on a civilian vehicle being driven by Colonel Fakhri Jamil.

Jamil was killed instantly, the report said.

It added that Iraqi intelligence organs had previously accused Iran of masterminding the assassination of 18 Iraqi intelligence officers over the past two years.
