London, Nov. 09 – Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani will travel to Moscow on Friday for talks at the Russian Security Council and Foreign Ministry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted as saying on Tuesday by the Russian news agency Interfax.

Lavrov told reporters that the planned trip by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to Moscow on Thursday had been postponed.

“As far as our contacts with the Iranian side are concerned, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki’s visit has been postponed at Tehran’s request. The secretary of the [Supreme”> National Security Council of Iran, Mr. Larijani, is to arrive in Moscow tomorrow for talks at the Russian Security Council and the Foreign Ministry”, Lavrov said.

Mottaki had been due to meet Lavrov to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program, the state-run news agency ISNA reported on Tuesday.

Key members of the United Nations Security Council are involved in intense negotiations to reach an agreement on a council resolution imposing possible sanctions on Tehran for failing to heed a demand earlier this year that it halt uranium enrichment.

Moscow has sought major revisions to a European-proposed draft resolution imposing mild sanctions.
