London, Jan. 05 – United States President George W. Bush said on Thursday that there could not be peace in the world with a nuclear-armed Iran.

“The free world wants there to be a peaceful future. And we don’t see a peaceful future with the Iranians developing a nuclear weapon”, Bush told reporters following a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House.

“We’re going to continue to work together on the Iranian issue. It’s important for us to follow through on this Chapter 7 resolution in order to solve this issue peacefully”, he said.

“The adoption of the resolution on Iran, after all, we were able, looking at the past months to forge a uniform position of the international community and have that reflected in a resolution of the United Nations Security Council. I think that’s an enormous success”, Merkel said, adding that the international community had “credibly” shown Iran where there was a “red line”, a euphemism for the UN Security Council’s demand that Tehran suspend uranium enrichment.

On December 23, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1737 to slap sanctions on Tehran and once again demanded it suspend all uranium enrichment activities.
