Iran Focus: Tehran, Sep. 25 – From the Grapevine… Tehran – Greater Tehran authorities have given the go-ahead for four new prisons to be built on the outskirts of the Iranian capital. Officials say the new detention centres will help with their plan to move prisoners out of the capital.

Tehran – Greater Tehran authorities have given the go-ahead for four new prisons to be built on the outskirts of the Iranian capital. Officials say the new detention centres will help with their plan to move prisoners out of the capital.

Mashhad – On Thursday jewellers in the north-eastern city of Mashhad went on strike against the government’s new tax laws. Witnesses reported that merchants had closed their stores throughout the day.

Shiraz – Authorities earlier this week closed down the Islamic Students Association in the Industrial University of Shiraz, southern Iran, for anti-government activities. Seals were placed on the association’s office on campus, and its belongings were seized.
