Pro-democracy activists in Tehran have called for protests marking 16th of Azar, or 7 December, (Students Day). Residents of Narmar, Lavizan and Tehran-no in northwest and northeast Tehran told Iran Focus that new graffiti was sprayed on walls, including, “[Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei must know, he will be overthrown”, “We will come on 7 December”, and “Students fight on, Khamenei is shaking, don’t forget 7 December”.
Major student protests and clashes with government forces took place in Iran last December on the country’s official Students Day.
On 7 December 1953, three students were shot dead by policemen during a rally against the sacking of nationalist Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh by the Shah. The day has been named Students Day and commemorated on campuses across Iran every year.
