Khamenei calls Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons a myth

-

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that attempts by Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons is a myth fabricated by the Americans and Europeans and some countries that follow them.

Speaking to a number of military commanders, he also denied any interference in the affairs of countries in the region and described statements to the contrary as “untrue allegations.”

“Today, the greatest global and regional threats are the United States and the Zionist regime that – unbridled and without adherence to any principles or moral and religious code – interfere anywhere they deem necessary and conduct massacres,” Khamenei said.

In recent years, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has constantly reported on a lack of cooperation by the regime in responding to the agency’s investigations regarding the possible military dimensions of Iran’s nuclear program. IAEA officials visited Tehran last week for the latest discussions over this issue, which concluded without any new breakthrough.

The International Committee In Search of Justice, an NGO, announced in a detailed report in November that the civil nuclear program of Iran is a cover for the regime’s nuclear military project. This report was produced by studying all IAEA reports in the past decade, disclosures by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), reports by other credible NGOs, as well as the regime’s answers to the IAEA.

In recent months, social media has been replete with pictures of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the terrorist Qods Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, in various war fronts in Iraq, effectively refuting Khamenei’s claims that the Iranian presence there is invented. In recent months, numerous senior U.S. administration and military officials have expressed concern about the extensive meddling of the regime in the region, including in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Concerning the regime’s regional interferences, Reuters reported on April 9 on the reaction of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry:
“The United States will not stand by while Iran provides support to Shia rebels who have seized much of Yemen… ‘There have been – there are, obviously – flights coming from Iran. Every single week there are flights from Iran and we’ve traced it and know this….

“Iran needs to recognise that the United States is not going to stand by while the region is destabilised or while people engage in overt warfare across lines, international boundaries in other countries.”

Mr. Mohammad Mohaddessin, Chairman of NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee, declared in an online conference on Thursday: “Today, the world and particularly our region are facing a great calamity called Islamic fundamentalism and fanaticism, whose epicenter is in Tehran under the rule of the mullahs. The clerical regime has expanded its interference to Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut and recently Sanaa, capital of Yemen. Its meddling is of course not limited to these countries and its apparatus of terrorism and fundamentalism is actively working in other Arab and Islamic countries such as Palestine, Egypt, Sudan, Turkey and Afghanistan.”
