Tehran, May 17 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said that an Al-Jazeera journalist who recently went missing in Syria and is believed to be in detention in Iran had committed a number of offences.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Dorothy Parvaz, who holds US, Canadian and Iranian nationalities and works for Al-Jazeera English, had decided to visit Syria with her Iranian passport and without getting an entry visa. However, her Iranian passport had been expired, he said.
Mehmanparast called on journalists to “observe rules and regulations” so as not to face any problems.
The Syrian government had previously announced that they had sent her back to Iran on 1 May, although there has been no official confirmation of this from Tehran.
