London, 10 November – A human rights activist has penned an op-ed for the American Free Thinker, criticising President Obama for the Iranian Nuclear Deal which was signed in 2015.

The US had hoped that Iran would mediate its interference in the Middle East but Amir Basiri, a supporter of democratic regime change in Iran, wrote that Iran has not upheld its side of the deal.

He wrote: “Not only has the Iranian regime failed to manifest a modicum of cooperation on the crises riddling the region, but it has also grown bolder in its efforts to expand terrorism, to fan the fires of sectarianism in neighbouring countries, and to threaten global peace and stability.”

He cited State Department Spokesman Mark Toner who called these hopes misplaced, and called Iranian behaviour “unconstructive”.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), a terrorist organisation which has benefited the most from the lifting of economic sanctions, helped to arm the  Houthis in Yemen earlier this year and  joining Bashar al-Assad in his war against the Syrian people.

General Hossein Salami, the Deputy Chief of the IRGC, boasted of Iran’s military expansionism on the anniversary of the occupation of the U.S. embassy in Tehran and even implied that Iran would reinstate its centrifuges.

Another IRGC commander indicated that Iranian-backed terrorists would be in the U.S. and Europe very soon.

Basiri points out that despite the powerful image Iran is presenting, they are mired in social unrest and economic crises.

He states: “This is yet more proof of the reality that the Iranian regime’s belligerence cannot be undercut through appeasement and concessions, and only a firm policy will force Tehran to retrace their steps and toe the line. Anything less will further drive the region into chaos and mayhem.”

He said that the next President, whom we now know to be Donald Trump, needs to stand with the Iranian people and fight the mullahs in order to re-establish peace in the Middle East.

Let us see if he is up to the challenge.
