Residents in the capital’s districts of Tehran Pars (east), Nezam-Abad, Yusef-Ababd and Eshrat-Abad (central), Rah-e Ahan, Khazaneh and Nazi-Abad (south) chanted “Allah-o Akbar” (God is the greatest) and “Death to [Iran’s supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei” from their rooftops at night on Saturday.
Some pro-government websites have warned of anti-government protests on 20 June, the anniversary of a half-a-million strong demonstration in Iran organised by the main opposition group People’s Mojahedin 30 years ago.
Authorities have stepped up stop-and-searches of vehicles and identity card checks in Tehran’s eastern, western and southern entrances on Ab-Ali, Old Qom, and Karaj highways, as well as on the Qom expressway and the Tehran expressway that rings the capital.
