Tehran, Jul. 5 – From the Grapevine…

Pro-democracy activists in Tehran have written new slogans in public places urging people to take part in 9 July protests commemorating the anniversary of the student-led uprising in 1999. The writings were graffitied on the walls in the Barq Alstom region, in and around Shahin Park and Sattarkhan Street, in the vicinity of Fajr Hospital at Pirouzi Air Force, around Mardom Hospital, as well as in Kerman and Ashtiani streets and Chaharsad Dastgah district. Slogans included: “We do not want compulsory veiling and religion, the mullahs must get lost: Onwards to 9 July”.

In Pounak district, the graffiti were mainly at Kamali Boulevard and Sardar Jangal and Bahar streets.

In Dolab district, activists had written graffiti on walls at Jahan Panah Park and nearby streets, including Saeedi Square, urging people to take to the streets. One slogan read: “Death to Khamenei; don’ forget about 9 July”, referring to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
