Tehran, Oct. 05 – From the Grapevine…

Goldsmiths in Tehran continued their strike on Tuesday.

The gold sellers’ quarter of Tehran’s Grand Bazaar and most gold and jewellery shops were closed throughout the capital.

One goldsmith told Iran Focus: “We have not yet reached our objectives and will continue the strike until we get what we want. The government promised to back down by today. But it did not. So, we will continue until the weekend. If the government gives in, we will end the strike, otherwise we will continue”.

Jewellers and goldsmiths on strike at the bazaar and elsewhere are demanding the government annul new laws on 3 percent Value Added Tax (VAT). The strike is in its second week.
