Iran Political Prisoner Denied Medical Leave Because He Refused to Wear Prison Garb

Saeed Shirzad, 30, has been detained since June 2015 when he was arrested by agents of the Intelligence Ministry for helping the children of political prisoners pursue education. He was accused of having contact with political prisoners’ families and cooperating with the office of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran.

An Iranian political prisoner was not transferred to a hospital on Sunday, despite needing urgent treatment because he refused to wear a prison outfit.

The family of Saeed Shirzad, a human rights activist, arranged his transfer for Sunday for a scheduled eye operation and even paid for the hospital, despite the fact that under Iranian laws the medical treatment of prisoners should be paid for by the state.

The President of the Republic of Albania paid a visit to Ashraf 3, the base of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran’s (PMOI or MEK) on 13 September. President Ilir Meta was accompanied by his National Security Adviser as well as the former Minister of Defence and current Chairman of the Republican Party of Albania Fatmir Mediu.

Ashraf 3 is the name of the MEK’s residence in Albania. The small country chose to host around 3,000 members of the biggest political opposition group that is seeking freedom and democracy for the people of Iran.
