Iranian political prisoners support Free Iran rally in Paris

London, 5 Jul – Political prisoners in Iran’s south-eastern city of Zahedan have issued a statement in support of the Free Iran mass rally on July 9 in Paris.

Smuggled out at great risk, the statement declared: “We, political prisoners of the Central Prison of Zahedan, call on all our countrymen and women, both inside the country and abroad, to take part in the mass gathering of Iranians in Paris. The rally will be a demonstration of the defense of the rights of the Iranian people. We need to end the many catastrophes overtaking the country.”

British MPs condemn rocket attack on Camp Liberty, demand security for the MEK

London, 5 Jul – Following a sustained rocket attack on members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI or MEK) in Camp Liberty in the Iraqi capital in the late hours of 4 July, the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom (BPCIF) issued an urgent call for international protection for the camp, home to Iran’s democratic opposition.

Lord Carlile: Abuse of political prisoners in Iran is shocking

London, 4 Jul – A leading British politician has expressed support for The Free Iran rally and encouraged governments and global institutions to do the same.

Lord Carlile of Berriew, QC and Joint Chair of the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, said that Iran must be persuaded to change its current outlook on human rights. He said that, if necessary, sanctions that were lifted as a result of last year’s nuclear deal should be re-imposed.

MEP says belief in Rouhani’s moderation ‘the worst kind of wishful thinking’

London, 4 Jul – Following reports of the staggering number of executions in Iran, a British MEP had described the notion that President Rouhani is in any way a moderate as ‘the worst kind of wishful thinking’.

Julie Girling, an MEP for South West England, stated that although she and other MEPs were concerned for the plight of women in Iran, they were encouraged by the work of the Iranian Resistance.

Church leaders: persecution in Iran has ‘intensified’ under Rouhani

London, 4 Jul – Nearly 80 Church leaders from the United Kingdom and the United States have signed a declaration in which they say, “Reports by the UN Secretary General, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and the U.S. State Department all indicate that the repression of Christians has not only continued but intensified during the presidency of Hassan Rouhani.”
