Death Toll Rises to 30 in Iran Protests

London, 2 Jan – At least 30 people have now been killed in clashes between the Iranian people and the security forces as anti-Regime protests continue to grow.

The death toll stood at 12 on January 1, and before that the Iranian Regime had only confirmed four deaths. This number has risen dramatically after tens of thousands of people joined the protests, which began last week.

Two protesters were shot dead by security forces on Sunday night, adding to the two killed on Saturday. Hundreds have been arrested for taking part in the demonstrations.

Paula Casaca: Isolated Regime of Iran Cannot Survive Current Crisis

London, 2 Jan – In a DW interview, Paulo Casaca prominent political analyst and a former member of the European Parliament said the theocratic regime in Iran is domestically and internationally isolated and cannot hold on to power for long.

Explaining the factors that have taken the Iranian people to the street, Mr. Casaca said: “Economic issues ignited a protest movement that quickly translated into something bigger, with people demanding the regime change, an end to theocracy and its replacement with a democratic form of government”.

IRAN: 30 Killed Over 1000 Mostly Young Arrested by IRGC

London, 2 Jan – Some 30 protesters have been killed by the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as nationwide uprising of the Iranian people enter its sixth day, according to the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Fearful of overthrow and desperate to confronting the popular nationwide uprising, the clerical regime has started blind arrests and so far detained at least 1,000 in the first to forth days of the uprising.

On Monday, despite brutal suppression by the Mullahs’ regime, people took to the streets en mass in Tehran and dozens of other cities across the country, chanting, “Death to Khamenei”, “Khamenei, shame on you, Let go the country”.

On the fourth day of the nationwide uprising, Khamenei the supreme leader remains silent. Rouhani, the regime’s president, also canceled his speech yesterday. Iran daily, associated with Rouhani, announced, “in light of recent events and several days of conflict in different cities of the country, the president will speak on these incidents in a couple of hours”. However, two hours later, one of Rouhani’s spokesmen said, “There is no speech in Rouhani’s program today.”

December 29, 2017. Reuters reported, Iranian police dispersed anti-government protesters in the western city of Kermanshah on Friday, the Fars semi-official news agency said, as protests spread to Tehran and apparently several other cities a day after rallies in the northeast.

The outbreak of regional unrest reflects growing discontent over rising prices and alleged corruption, as well as concern over the Islamic Republic’s costly involvement in regional conflicts such as Syria and Iraq.

London, 28 Dec – Today, anti-government protests broke out across Iran, including in Mashhad, the second largest city, and one of the holiest places in Shia Islam. The protesters clashed with state security forces over the soaring cost of living.

In Mashhad, around 10.000 people joined together in major protests. People crowded the streets, and chanted “death to the dictator” in reference to President Hassan Rouhani.

Iran May Be Losing Its Battle for the Region

London, 28 Dec – With victories in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, you might say that Iran is strong in the region. However, though some elements applaud it, Iran’s annexation of these states is being rejected by a large segment of their populations today.

Ultimately, giving up their historical identities and culture to Iran’s proxies and agents is believed by many to be too great a price.

However, Yemen is a bit different. The army advancing from the south, is reportedly gaining more victories on the ground with each passing day, making the prospect of Houthi survival in Sana’a unlikely. London, 28 Dec – Since this morning, Thursday, December28, thousands of people in Mashhad (capital of the Northeastern Khorasan Razavi province) gathered at the Shohada square in front of the municipality’s building in Mashhad to protest the daily increasing and unrestrained price of basic goods and necessities. The number of demonstrators increased every minute during the march. Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran announced in a statement on December 28, 2017.

Report Calls Iran a Small, but Powerful, Cyber Threat

London, 27 Dec – A new study is soon to be published by Collin Anderson and Karim Sadjadpour of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. It is called “Iran’s Cyber Threat” and it describes a country that, although not high on the cyber threat matrix, can still do considerable damage.

America and its allies exist in a dangerous electronic ecosystem. The media highlights Russia’s alleged hacking of the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign on a daily basis, but less attention is focused on the weapons available to dozens of smaller countries. With its relatively open systems, the US can be an easy target.

London, 27 Dec – At Damascus University journalism students were excited to see posters advertising: “Job Opportunity”. The posters were all over the campus, and offered 150,000 Syrian pounds or $360 (Dh1, 321) a month. This is a very good salary for journalism graduates, especially in a country where many news media channels have been closed down due to the war, now entering its seventh year.

Even news stations such as Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera have also been told they were not welcome, and have also closed up shop.
