Gingrich: Shame on Europe for Doing Business With Iran

Newt Gingrich

Iran Focus

London, 6 July – Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Newt Gingrich has demanded that European countries cut their shameful business ties with the Iranian mullahs and help the US to overthrow the Regime, during a speech at the Free Iran rally in Paris this weekend.

Donald Trump ended US business dealings with Iran back in May, when he pulled out of the fatally flawed 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed strict sanctions of the mullahs as part of an effort to bring political change to Iran.

Since then, he has warned China and India against continuing to buy Iranian oil lest they come under sanctions themselves.

EU Approves Additional Business With Iran, Even After Terror Plot

The EIB – the EU’s not-for-profit long-term investment arm

London, 5 July – EU lawmakers approved on Wednesday plans for the European Investment Bank (EIB) to do business in Iran, despite attempts by some politicians to block the approval, which further enshrines Europe’s attempts to keep the 2015 nuclear deal alive, following US withdrawal in May.

The EIB – the EU’s not-for-profit long-term investment arm – is key to the bloc’s attempts to maintain trading links with Iran despite US sanctions. This decision does not oblige the EIB to work with Iran, but it is expected that the EIB will work with Iran from August.

FAFT said: “Iran’s action plan has expired with a majority of the action items remaining incomplete.”

Iran’s continued reluctance to deal with financial crimes undermines the future of the 2015 nuclear deal, between Iran and five world powers.

London, 4 July – Although Iran has pledged to keep to the terms of the country’s landmark nuclear deal, even after U.S. President Trump pulled America out of the accord, its officials say that it has restarted production at the Isfahan plant, which produces materials needed to make enriched uranium.

This appears to be a warning that is aimed at pressuring Europeans and others to come up with the means to circumvent the new American sanctions.

Many international organizations are pulling back from deals with Tehran and the country’s currency has faced an enormous drop against the dollar.

Iran’s Water Crisis

Iran Focus

London, 4 July – Population and agricultural growth puts a strain on water resources. Many countries in the Middle East are suffering from a water shortage due to drought as well as mismanagement. This can lead to economic and consequently political instability.

One of the most vulnerable countries is Iran, who has not developed an effective system of water supply and use.

In fact, drought poses a bigger threat for the future of Iran than the countries it considers “enemies” — US and Israel.

Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, the chief of Iran’s civil defence organization, made this ludicrous statement at an agricultural conference in Tehran.

He said: “Joint teams from Israel and one of the neighbouring countries make the clouds entering into Iran barren. Moreover, we are faced with the cases of cloud theft and snow theft.”

US campaign to pressure Iran into new nuclear deal

Iran Focus

London, 3 July – The US State Department has announced an incredible campaign consisting of “maximum economic and diplomatic pressure” to push Iran into negotiating a new and improved nuclear deal to replace the one that Donald Trump withdrew from in May.

State Department Director of Policy Planning Brian Hook explained on Monday that Iran is not a “normal” government and must meet the 12 demands, laid out by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in order to be free from US sanctions.

Hook said: “Normal countries don’t terrorize other nations, proliferate missiles and impoverish their own people… This new strategy is not about changing the regime; it is about changing the behaviour of the leadership in Iran to comport with what the Iranian people really want them to do.”
