Chairman of Assembly of Experts Calls on Rouhani to Apologize for Nuclear Deal

London, 15 May – The Assembly of Experts of the Leadership (AEL), also known as the Assembly of Experts (AoE), is the deliberative body empowered to designate and dismiss the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader and supervise his performance. The chairman of the influential body, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, has called upon President Hassan Rouhani to apologize to the people of Iran for not respecting conditions laid out by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for negotiating the nuclear deal.

He accused Rouhani in the statement for disregarding red lines set by Ali Khamenei for the government’s nuclear talks with the U.S. and world powers, and said that Rouhani should “present his apologies to the Iranian nation for the damage it has caused.”

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was arrested two years ago after taking her baby daughter Gabriella to visit family in Iran, will be returning to court in the next week or two to face resurrected charges of spreading propaganda against the ruling system; a charge usually levied by Iran when they don’t have anything concrete to charge a person with.

London, 14 May – Iraq is currently facing many obstacles, including unemployment, ethnic conflict, and religious intolerance, but one important issue that needs to be immediately addressed is the extent of its illegal drug trade, and Iran’s role in it.

The Saudi television channel al-Arabiya reported in April 2017, that Hezbollah, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Iranian-linked elements of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) were smuggling drugs from Afghanistan through Iran, Iraq, and Turkey to Europe. The report alleged further that Italian law enforcement agencies had dismantled a nine-member Iraqi PMF cell working as part of a wider operation headed by IRGC general Gholamreza Baghbani.

London, 14 May – The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has urged the international community to ramp up the pressure on Iran to respect the UN Charter, stop giving ballistic missiles to the Houthis in Yemen, and stop meddling in the affairs of Arab nation-states.

ON Sunday, GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said: “The GCC countries want a Middle East free from all weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons.”

Zayani noted that, despite Iran’s struggling economy, the mullah’s have ploughed their resources into destabilising the region, including supplying the Yemeni Houthis with weapons to use against Saudi Arabia.

Israel attacked 50 IRGC positions in Syria

London, 13 May – Last week, Israel attacked 50 positions in Syria that were managed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The attack was in retaliation for Iran’s firing of 10 missiles toward Israel.

In an attempt to explain the situation, Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid al-Khalifa said on Twitter, “Since Iran violated the status quo in the region and violated countries’ (sovereignty) via their forces and missiles, then any country in the region, including Israel, has the right to defend itself by destroying the sources of threat.”

London, 13 May – The National Council of Resistance of Iran-US Representative Office (NCRI-US) hosted a panel of experts to discuss Iran’s missile program and its ties with the nuclear weapons program, on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. The group presented a new 133-page book by the NCRI-US, Iran’s Ballistic Buildup: The March toward Nuclear-Capable Missiles, by Alireza Jafarzadeh, the deputy director of the NCRI’s Washington office.

The book has dozens of charts, pictures, satellite imageries, and maps, which provide details on the crucial infrastructure of Tehran’s ballistic missile program.

London, 11 May – Incoming reports indicate a number of teachers being “beaten and detained” during a protest by retired and employed teachers in Tehran, “in the aftermath of crackdown by security forces.”

The protest took place on Thursday May 10th, in front of the Planning and Budget Organization in Tehran, and held in front of the Education Department in other cities throughout the country.

According to reports, agents arrested 6 people at the protest in front of the “Plan and Budget Organization” in Tehran, whose location and fate is still uncertain.

US imposes new sanctions on IRGC

London, 11 May – The US has imposed sanctions on six individuals and three companies that have ties to Iran’s suppressive security force, the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its Quds Force.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that the sanctions targeted those responsible for funnelling millions of dollars to the IRGC, which was then used to fund its “malign activity”.

He said: “[Iran’s central bank helped the IRGC to access US dollars via] a large-scale currency exchange network.”
