London, 28 Feb – When the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement was signed, many hoped that it would be the start of a new era – a less belligerent and non-nuclear Iran. However, this was far from the reality. Nothing really changed with regards to Iran’s meddling and trail of destruction across the Middle East.

When President Trump took office, he ended the policies of appeasement that were clearly not effective. He decertified the deal in October last year because Iran refused to let international inspectors have proper access to nuclear and military sites and because it was still trying to access missile and banned nuclear technology, among other violations.

London, 27 Feb – The state-owned Iranian media has been emphasizing the statements made by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei regarding the problems that Iran is facing without questing his motives or his actions according to a leading Iran expert.

Dr. Majid Rafizadeh, an Iranian-American political scientist, wrote an op-ed on Arab News decrying the Iranian Press for failing to hold the senior officials to account, while acknowledging that the intrinsic links between those at the top of the administration and those running the media make it impossible for the officially sanctioned journalists to serve as the fourth estate.

London, 27 Feb – The Iranian Resistance wants Switzerland and the UN Human Rights Council to recognise that Iran’s Justice Minister is responsible for the most egregious human rights violations.

That’s why the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) submitted a complaint to both the Swiss General Prosecutor, Michael Lauber, and an appeal to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein urging an investigation of Alireza Avaei’s crimes and a ban on him being welcomed in Switzerland or at the UN.

London, 27 Feb – The US and Europe know that the influence of Iran now stretches from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea, thanks to Iran’s dominance over Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, but are they aware that of the economic, political, and security threat this poses to the West?

After all, without serious action from the West, Iran will likely build upon its power in the Middle East by infiltrating the state institutions in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon (those it hasn’t already), meaning that any support for those institutions (like the billions promised to rebuild Iraq) will likely end up in the hands of Iran’s Shia militias.

It has been reported that a protest will take place in Geneva in front of the United Nations headquarters because the Human Rights Council is allowing Iranian Justice Minister Alireza Avaie to attend the its annual meeting in Geneva this week.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is also slamming the organisation for allowing him to attend later this week too. At the weekend she released a statement saying that she is astounded that a minister with such a reputation would be allowed to speak at the meeting. She said that it should be “ashamed” that someone who has been called out for participating in violations of human rights will be present at such an event.

UAE Ambassador Declares Support for Resolution to Curb Iran’s Supply of Weapons to Houthis in Yemen

London, 25 Feb – Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations Lana Nusseibeh has expressed her hope that the Security Council will support a resolution regarding Iran’s supply of rockets to Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Nusseibeh said that it is imperative for action to be taken to stop Iran providing such weapons to the Houthis and other extremist groups.

The resolution is led by Britain and it hopes to gain the support of the Security Council for sanctions-related efforts with regards to the war in Yemen. It includes condemning Iran for its breech of an arms embargo in war-struck Yemen.

There is optimism that the draft resolution is passed imminently. It has already got backing from Russia.

London, 25 Feb – While in recent days, Iranian judicial authorities have emphasized on dealing with the arrested people in the Pasdaran avenue demonstrations, some of the Friday prayer leaders in Iran called these people “terrorists” and “British affiliates”, comparing them with Daesh (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly called foreign countries “responsible” for protests in Iran.

Earlier, government and security officials have accused the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia of being involved in the mass protests in Iran in early January.

London, 23 Feb – Imprisoned Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi has penned an open letter to judiciary chief Sadegh Larijani to condemn the Judiciary for bowing down to Iran’s security agencies and denying prisoners their rights.

Mohammadi, who is serving 16 years for her human rights activism, wrote: “[You have] repeatedly claimed that the Judiciary is an independent institution. However, such claims do not match reality. They are only deceitful words that make a mockery of justice when a judicial system detains, convicts and punishes people according to the biased and malicious opinions of security-military agencies and denies prisoners their legal rights.”

London, 23 Feb – The Saudi foreign minister has said that the Iran nuclear deal is “unacceptable” because the world could not trust Iran to not produce a nuclear bomb in the future.

On Thursday, Adel Al-Jubeir told the foreign affairs committee of the European Parliament that the expiration deates on certain restrictions in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) mean that in eight to ten years’ time Iran could manufacture a nuclear bomb “within weeks”.

In a previous piece on the Iranian Resistance’s commitment to gender equality, we highlighted the ten areas that Maryam Rajavi and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) believe are essential to achieving equality of men and women in Iran.

One of those areas was clothing, specifically the right of women to choose their own attire without interference from the government, and we want to explain why Maryam Rajavi believes it is essential to gender equality in Iran.

Mandatory hijab introduction

Following the 1979 revolution, the Iranian Regime introduced mandatory hijab in Iran, which meant that women needed to be veiled in public. At the time, Iranian women rallied against the introduction of the law and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), a member group of the NCRI, organised demonstrations against it.
