London, 1 May – Despite the regime’s anti-labor measures, the workers were able in 2016 to have 2171 collective protests in different cities of Iran. The most important feature of rallies and protests by workers over the past year was the political slogans. The scope of the protests was so high that Guard Ashtari in reference to them told the state run ISNA news agency on February 26, 2017: “Now because of the closure of some factories and credit institutions, rallies are held that occasionally reach to 20-30 per day, and these rallies must be well managed. Because occurring of an accident in a city can have national and international repercussions. “

London, 30 Apr – After the 1979 revolution, Iran became a nation militarily divided. It’s leaders were suspicious of the armed forces because of their allegiance to the shah, so the revolutionaries formed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG).

Although the IRCG is 55 years younger than the Iranian army, the army became subservient to the IRCG, who receive a greater amount of funding and the best military hardware.

According to an article by Track Persia, a Platform run by analysts dedicated to researching the Middle East, this may all soon change. Track Persia reports that the news from Tehran is that the army is about to shed its long-held defensive posture.

London, 27 Apr – An Iranian businessman has just been sentenced to a decade in prison in the United Arab Emirates for providing assistance with the nuclear program.

The court in the UAE handed the sentence over after the man was convicted of bringing an electric motor and other equipment to the country with the intention of using them to advance the Iranian nuclear program.

London, 26 Apr – The Obama administration released seven Iranian prisoners (and stopped pursuing 14 more suspects) who were deeply involved in Iran’s missile and nuclear program, in order to secure the release of US hostages in Iran; according to Josh Meyer of Politico.

At the time, the prisoners (and fugitives) were presented as non-violent offenders who had merely violated the US’s economic sanctions on Iran; although considering that the Gulf nation is the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism, surely breaking economic sanctions is bad enough.
